Deactivating and reactivating products and categories

Summary

📴 Deactivate Instead of Delete: Deactivate products or categories you don't need right now, such as seasonal menu items. They disappear from devices but aren't deleted.

♻️ Bring Them Back: Reactivate them at any time by filtering for inactive items.

⚠️ Categories Hide Everything Inside: Deactivating a category hides all of its products from your devices.

Detailed Step-by-Step Summary: Deactivating and Reactivating

Deactivating a Product

  • Selecting Products: In the backoffice, click Categories and click into the category. Tick the square next to each product you want to deactivate. You can select several at once.
  • Deactivating: Click Update [x] items at the top (x is the number you've selected), then click Deactivate.
  • On the Device: The products no longer appear. Pull down on the device to refresh if they're still showing.

Deactivating a Category

  • Selecting Categories: In Categories, tick the square next to each category you want to deactivate, click Update [x] items at the top, then click Deactivate.
  • Check First: Deactivating a category hides every product in it from all the devices it's assigned to. If you only want to remove a few items, deactivate those products instead.

Reactivating Products and Categories

  1. In Categories (or inside a category, for products), filter by State → Inactive.
  2. Tick the square next to each item you want to bring back.
  3. Click Update [x] items at the top, then click Activate.
  4. Clear the filter afterwards, so you can see all your active items again.

Seasonal Menus

  • Changing Menus: At the end of a season, deactivate the products you're taking off. When they come back, reactivate them rather than creating them again. This keeps their allergens, history and settings intact and avoids duplicates.

Other Bulk Updates

The same tick-and-update process lets you change several items at once:

  • Moving Products Between Categories: Tick the products, click Update [x] items, then Move to Category and choose the new category.
  • Making Products Global: Products created on a device have their names shown in blue. Global products on more than one device are locked there and can only be edited in the backoffice; on a single device they stay editable. To make them global, tick them, click Update [x] items, then Make Global.
  • Assigning Categories to Devices: Tick the categories, click Update [x] items, then choose the devices they should appear on. To change the devices for one category, open it and use the Devices panel on the left: click Add new to add a device, or the three dots next to a device to manage it.

By deactivating rather than deleting, you can change your menus as often as you like without losing any product information.
