Detailed Step-by-Step Summary: Allergens

Allergen Types on Prep Products

  • Allergens: Choose from the 14 allergens, for example Cereals, Fish or Celery. The list also includes "No allergens", "UNDEFINED - consult allergen matrix", and any allergens your account has added on the Allergens page.
  • Custom Allergens: Add anything not covered by the 14, in your own words, for example "GLUTEN".
  • May Contain: Add cross-contamination warnings, for example "NUTS".
  • On the Label: Prep labels show allergens and custom allergens together, then may contain, for example "ALLERGENS: CEREALS, GLUTEN | M/C: NUTS".

Adding Allergens in the Backoffice

  1. Click Categories, click into the category, then click the product.
  2. In the Allergens section, click Edit.
  3. Add or remove allergens, custom allergens and may contain warnings, then save.
  4. Check the Label Preview to see how they'll print.

Adding Allergens on the Device

  • Editing a Product: Press and hold the product name, then edit its allergens. Only Super Users and Managers can do this, and only for local products. Products with a padlock must be edited in the backoffice.

Adding Your Own Allergen Options

  • The Allergens Page: In the backoffice, click Allergens in the left-hand menu. It lists every allergen staff can choose from on prep products. This applies to prep labels only.
  • Adding an Option: Click Add new, enter the allergen name and click Add. It becomes a selectable option when creating or editing prep products, both in the backoffice and on the device for local products.
  • Options or Custom Allergens? Add an option on the Allergens page if it will be used on many products, so everyone picks the same wording. Use the Custom Allergens field for one-off entries on a single product.

Allergens on Sale Labels

  • In the Ingredients: Sale labels show a full ingredients list with allergens emphasised, as Natasha's Law requires. In the backoffice, highlight each allergen and click B (or press Ctrl+B, Cmd+B on a Mac). Underline and italics also work. On the device, press B or put "**" either side of the word.

Checking Allergen History

  • History Section: Each product page in the backoffice has a History section. It shows the action, user, date and time, field changed (such as Allergens, Custom Allergens or May Contain), old value, new value and product version.
  • Using It: If a label was printed with the wrong allergens, check the history to see when the product was changed and by whom.

Keeping Allergens Accurate

  • Avoid Duplicates: Duplicate products can end up with different allergens. See Duplicate Products.
  • Hide Allergens Setting: If Hide Allergens is switched on in Settings, allergens won't show on prep labels or in the backoffice. Check this is off if you need allergens on your labels.
  • Menu Analyser: The Menu Analyser can suggest allergens from your menu or allergen matrix. Always check its suggestions before importing.

By keeping allergen information up to date and checking the history when needed, you can make sure every label gives your staff and customers the right information.
